“Personal Growth includes activities that:

  • improve awareness and identity
  • develop talents and potential
  • build human capital
  • facilitate employability
  • enhance quality of life
  • contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations.

 (From Wikepedia)

My own understanding - it is any activity which opens your eyes to:

  • your greater potential
  • who you are
  • how you function
  • knowing what you want to change
  • knowing why you want to change
  • developing the tools and skills to facilitate that change
  • maintaining the motivation to keep keep striving, whatever challenges and difficulties present themselves.
  • getting up and keeping on trying, however many times you get knocked down.

When your eyes have been opened and you have acquired a deeper understanding of yourself, then you can begin to acquire the skills you need to make the changes you wish to create.

You choose to open the door and to walk through it, whenever you feel ready.

How is it done?

  • The start point is the Mind. Noticing how it works, how it controls most of our actions at an unconscious level.
  • In order to see this we embrace silence and stillness, whether we are moving or sitting, running or meditating. Everywhere. This is the core of our work.
  • By silence we mean the mind becoming still, focused, resting on one thing without it’s usual chatter and distractions.
  • It can be the silence and stillness of formal meditation sitting.
  • It can be the focus on the body of Hatha Yoga.
  • It can be the gentle flow, mental withdrawl and stillness in motion of Ta-chi and Qigong or the dynamic tension of Liangong.
  • The quiet appreciation of a cup of coffee in your favourite cafe.
  • The hug of a child or a best friend.

What we teach is the ability to let go of mental chatter, judgement, resistance to ‘what is’ and to embrace the fullness and beauty of the present moment with all of it’s pain and challenges, because, in truth, that is all there is.

Everything which isn’t an awareness of right now is a concept in your mind, something which isn’t real.

What are the benefits?

  • As many millions of people have discovered over many millennia, there is a state of mind which, when accessed, floods you with a deep, profound and joyful sense of peace. and tranquility.
  • There is a wonderful release of energy when this state is arrived at because we lock so much energy into tight muscles and emotional stress.
  • The physical aspects of The Inward Adventure allow us to let go the physical stresses and to directly experience this increased energy.
  • It gives you the tools and techniques to change the damaging physical, mental and emotional habits acquired over a lifetime of accumulated stress.

Who is it for?

  • Absolutely anyone and everyone.
  • The quality of our lives is dependent on the quality of our thoughts. You can only feel good right now!
  • What we focus our minds on and how we think create the feelings and emotions we experience moment to moment.
  • The fundamental work is in becoming aware of our mental activities.
  • The major learning is in how to step back from our mental activities, accessing and staying in the position of an interested and non-judgmental observer.
  • The skills of Yoga, Ta-chi, Qigong, Liangong etc are all designed to help the body to re-balance and thus to heal. The main benefit of these skills is to cleanse the body of waste, relaxing muscles and allowing the body to re-align itself.
  • This allows a softness to fill us, an acceptance of what life has to offer, right now, and the energy and strength to make changes to the things which disturb us.
