Personal Growth is the journey and not a goal to arrive at.
It is cultivating actions which are consistent with our beliefs and values and then following through with those actions which further deepen and evolve our practice.
Our practice clarifies our beliefs and values which lead to our ethical guidelines, which, in turn, govern our actions and behaviours.
I’m sharing some of my guiding principles with you to give you a flavour of how to consciously develop your own set of principles.
We go much deeper into these ideas on our 1 day workshops.
- If I wouldn't like to receive what I'm doing now, don't do it.
- If I wouldn’t like to hear what I’m about to say then don’t say it.
- If what I’m about to say is not positive then keep silent.
- I give thanks for everything that happens, whatever it is. A loved one passes away, I give thanks for what we have shared not for what I have lost.
- I always show others that they are appreciated and matter.
- Being well mannered and considerate is a habit worth cultivating.
- Is this choice I am making right now going to move me closer to my goals and aspirations? If not, make another one.
- Comparing myself to others will only lead to pain or arrogance. There will always be people more skilled or less skilled. So what?
- Being kind, compassionate and humble cannot be measured but is so very highly valued.
- Enjoyment of life is so much easier with a healthy body, so I look after it. I'm mindful of what I put into it. Get quality sleep. Cultivate the habit of regular, moderate exercise. Relaxation time is essential.
- The quality of my life depends on the quality of my thoughts so I'm mindful of what I put my attention on. Focus only on those things which are uplifting.
- A joyful life is not possible unless my mind can see joy in all things.
- I cultivate an attitude of peace and acceptance. That means not complaining!
I accept that my previous choices have put me where I am now! - I take ownership of my actions - which means no blaming!
- I look for what beauty there is in everything around me.
- Having the attitude that fulfillment will arise by accumulating things, doing things, acquiring things will only lead to pain and suffering.
- Everything that happens is only a situation. It is me that puts a meaning to it;
that makes it important; that fills it with emotion. In the big scheme of things, everything is temporary and will pass.
There are many more guidelines I follow, based on principles and not rules.
The most important thing is that you develop your own to live by.
They must be consistent with your beliefs and your values, which have been carefully arrived at and not the result of old baggage and old wounds.
The practice of:
- Tai-chi,
- Yoga,
- Qigong,
- Liangong,
- Insight Meditation
- NLP
… and all the other aspects of what we teach will lead you in this direction and, if you wish, will allow you to delve ever deeper into the functionings of your mind and so into a greater understanding of your emotions.
It is up to you whether you just want to learn the wonderful skills of Tai-chi or Liangong etc or whether you use them as a doorway to explore the issues we have been discussing throughout the website.
