In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) all illnesses are due to an imbalance in our Life Force energy fields (Qi, Chi). These imbalances have a variety of causes which can be diagnosed and appropriate treatment modalities created to re-balance you Chi and so promote healing.

The energy can be blocked or it can be depleted. The skill of the practitioner is in diagnosing the state of your Chi and choosing the appropriate techniques to achieve the desired outcome.

Ultimately though, you must take responsibility for your healing. No one can do it for you.
Your mind set has been shown to have a profound affect on your recovery.

Have you ever wondered how come:

  • Someone in a group will have a really bad cold and some from the group will get the cold and others will be untouched?
  • How do some people recover from a diagnosis of terminal cancer?
  • How do some people achieve a sense of peace and acceptance in the face of horrendous challenges?

Often it's due to our underlying beliefs about out healing, our mindsets, our emotional states and our mental energy. Essentially, how Chi energy moves.

How is it done?

There are 2 main ways that a Shiatsu treatment is given. Remember that generally Shiatsu is given fully clothed.

  • You can lie on a futon on the floor and receive.
  • You can be in a sitting position, either on a regular chair, stool or a bespoke Shiatsu work station.

It is also possible to receive whilst lying on a massage couch or to receive shiatsu type techniques within a massage, either on a futon or a massage table.

At one end of the scale you lie completely still and pressure-points are pressed and held, as in accupuncture. At the other end of the scale you are gently pulled, pushed, stretched and loosened with no pressure-point work.

Generally each treatment will be a mixture of holding, stretching, pulling, pushing, pressing, point and channel work, along with guided visualisations!

Each treatment is different and there is no routine to follow. Your treatment modality is based on what you are presenting on the day.

What are the benefits?

Theses are numerous and varied and depend on your outcomes.

There can be relief from physical pain and discomfort to emotional peace, relaxation  and a sense of tranquility.

Who can benefit?

Anyone!

Old and young, frail and robust. Those who want to feel better emotionally and those who have physical challenges.

No one is excluded. There is a treatment modality for all!
