The Practitioner level moves on from the Fun level which is a pre-requisite for this level.

In the Fun level the focus is on the practical techniques and how to connect to your client whilst in the Practitioner Level there is a lot more theory focusing on how to create a treatment protocol for that person.
The Practitioner level develops and refines the practical elements, focusing mainly on the feeling of connection to Qi energy, which helps with the diagnosis and treatment.

The main elements of theory:

  • Learning the position and location of the Meridian Channels.
  • Learning the position and function of the main points.
  • Understanding the Transformation of Qi.
  • Understanding and applying the 5 Phase or 5 Element diagnostic map.
  • Knowing the functions of the Organs and the related Points.

The total time is 500 hours, of which approximately 400 hours is class time. The rest is home study and exchanges. This is usually spread over 3 years but can be taken as intensives. We will be running courses in India which will cover 4 weeks (20 days) at a time.

You will need to have completed 100 treatments during the time of the course and have written up 10 of these in great detail as part of your assessment.

Course Content.

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
  • Meridian and Point theory
  • Diagnostic Theory
  • Transformation of Qi
  • Anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Examination

How is it done?

The classes are all highly experiential. You learn by doing!

There is an ongoing assessment process so that any weaknesses are addressed immediately. You are encouraged to give continuous feed-back to your peers so that the learning becomes easy and fun.

We are all built differently and have different capabilities so you are taught individually. A 60 kilo slip of a woman working on a 120 kilo weight lifter will need to move differently and have a different set of techniques than the other way around.

You are encouraged to be individual and develop your own styles and techniques within the frame-work of sound practice and solid principles.

The classes are playful and fun as you experiment to find what works for you and what doesn’t. Innovation is encouraged!

There are final exams to be taken.

These are in:

  • Anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Shiatsu (TCM) Theory
  • Practical elements including the diagnosis, treatment modality and delivery of what has been diagnosed.

What are the benefits?

  • You receive so much Shiatsu that the course pays for itself in terms of treatments received!!
  • You will be able to charge for your treatments and so re-coop the costs of the course.
  • Your knowledge of the 5 Phases means that you will be able to read personality types according to TCM and so have a better understanding of how to communicate and influence people.
  • You will be able to self treat by pressing points, stretching Meridians, practicing Qigong and Tai-chi as well as all the various skills learnt during the course.

Who is it for?

  • Those who want to earn a living at Shiatsu.
This could be as a career change or a supplement to your regular income.
  • Those who want to delve into the deeper levels of theory and learn how to apply this knowledge into their everyday life.
