The gentle, flowing movements of Qigong will activate the Chi in the Meridian channels and leave you feeling energised, calm and peaceful with a soft glow of wellbeing shining within.

What is it?

Qigong is a series of physical movements which gently mobilise the joints and muscles whilst simultaneously massaging the internal organs. This activates specific Meridian Channels allowing the Life force (Chi) energy to fill the body.
Co-ordinating the breath and movement is central to the practice.

There are many styles and forms and sequences within the umbrella of Qigong.

Some are static poses held for various lengths of time. The martial practitioners will hold a position for up to an hour to develop their Internal Chi! (We won't!)

There are also a great many moving sequences, which can look rather like Tai-chi.

We will be focusing on an 18 move sequence called Shibashi Tai-chi Qigong.

The main differences between Tai-chi and dynamic Qigong.

In Dynamic Qigong:

  •  there are more twisting and bending movements.
  •  specific moves can be repeated a number of times.
  •  positions can be held in stillness for a short time.
  •  there can be a more dynamic tension element.
  •  the aim is to stimulate the Merridian channels in order to move stuck Chi.

The benefits.

The gentle, repetitive movements will open the joints, eliminate waste and stimulate particular energy channels to facilitate the flow of Chi energy and so:

  • you become more calm
  • more tranquil
  • see things from a wider perspective
  • become gentler in your dealings with people.
  • develop physical stamina
  • lower blood pressure
  • strengthen the core muscles
  • have more energy
  • help strengthen the immune system

It is surprisingly demanding on the body, especially the legs, which will become stronger and more supple.

The way we do it.

Our main focus is on the Shibashi, 18 move Qigong form. Often read as 18 move Tai-chi/Qigong.

This will take time to learn though the benefits are felt from the first day you start.

The benefits lie in the way that you do it rather than in the sequence itself, important though it is.
